Our custom modular home order was submitted end of January 2017, our home was placed on property in June 2017 yet we finally closed in January 2018 even though the build was not finished; only because our other home sold quickly before Christmas. We anticipated completion of our build to move in but they dropped the ball and closed shop for the holidays, otherwise, we would not have closed until STRUCTURAL issues were corrected or repaired.
The dealer and factory are difficult to coordinate or schedule techs for repairs. Our issues stem from the factory build, to placement, dealer set-up, and finishing crews. Our air conditioning is not flowing through half the vents and thermostat is not placed in optimum location for proper room gauge reading. The house was not leveled properly and after many attempts to re-level they finally came close; but, there is damage in the truss because of a loud crash and shattering sound in final jacking effort. This caused more cracks in crown moldings and floor trim as well as ceiling cracks at marriage line yet no one has addressed or keep us in the loop for STRUCTURAL issues. The drywall upgrade of $5K is below any standard with wavy walls and trim due to horrendous tape and texture and paint finish apparent to the naked eye, throughout house. The MBR shower tile does not have cement backer board nor water barrier code required for all showers to prevent mold. The accent glass tile strip was wavy and floor tile pooled at all corners; and, they never installed the second accent strip at all. With each attempt at repairs, they made it worse. Each and every doorway needs to be leveled and squared, door hardware is cheap and lose, and seem irreplaceable to the average homeowner. The quality of cabinetry is poor with many doors and drawers needing replacement due to binding or scratches or cracks, with ill-fitting door hardware that leave huge gaps. The DR room sliding glass and screen doors bow out making it difficult to open and close; this is our primary entry and exit.
Jacobsen Homes "Factory" has poor quality control and workmanship in their builds. Their engineering approved Jack & Jill bathroom door placement that hit each other as well as in the second master bathroom, also wrong placement of a/c thermostat, poorly designed a/c system, and inadequate hot water heater room size or hole it's squeezed into.
Coordinating contractors and subcontractors is not their strength, therefore, customer service is very poor. We had so many issues with the coordinator, the owner is personally handling our project yet still maddening.
All of this has been tortuous and EXTREMELY STRESSFUL. My family and friends are in disbelief and as appalled as we are throughout this whole custom home modular build. The dealership at Plant City claim they are doing their to coordinate repairs yet fall short each time in scheduling, the re-scheduling and poor quality subcontractors. Apparently, we did not do enough research, get customer references, seek factory and dealer customer service ratings, comparison shop for quality workmanship, and appliances. Signed: dissatisfied, disgusted and tireless customer in North Central Florida. read less

I can not tell you how satisfied I am not only with Jacobsen the home builder but with Mark Malanowicz from the Plant City sales office. I had the pleasure of having him help me from start to the finish on my project. At 55 years old I retired and decided to move from Orlando to Sarasota and was lucky enough to find a lot in a community that not only my parents live in but my grandmother did as well.
Now I will not say that the entire process didn't come with some bumps in the road, but to be honest much of that is just from the lack of EVER going through the process of building a Mobile home vrs a brick and mortar home as I have done in the past. But Mark and his entire team was always there when I called with questions or concerns. Another key note I would like to mention is that the team that Jacobsen put together to complete my outdoor package went above and beyond as well to complete my entire project.
I am currently working with Marks other office at Citrus Homes in Brandenton, FL to install a unit for my brother who has just started the process. If I wasn't happy or for sure that the outcome wasn't far greater than the small issues that comes up I would have NEVER allowed him to move forward with this company. My brother actually read the reviews on his own and brought those concerns up to me so this is why I felt I must take the time to give you the opinion of someone else. I hope this helps anyone with questions or concerns you might have. Jacobsen is one of the few Manufactures that will allow you to make almost ANY changes to a model you like to fit your personal needs. That is huge for a buyer!! or at least it was for this buyer..... read less
